One thing I learned is they cannot be forced. Be encouraging and discuss the benefits of a good mentor/mentee relationship. the employee needs to want it to be successful. The best results I have seen is from a mentor / mentee that build a good rapport and connection. Some of this can be done with internal teams across the organization to build a more diverse perspective on growth and what does success look like for the individual. We have also leveraged the IIA Mentorship program. Some have been very successful while others not so much. General Counsel in Government5 months ago
Agree with the optional, I think companies that make it a priority available to new early career mentees and identify willing and qualified mentors does set them apart from those who do not. I have personally served as a mentor through a platform that does matchmaking and formal guide for a 6-8 week program through a company called Tern Mentoring. Took all the guesswork out of what to talk about at each session, and is customizable by the company based on goals/industry. I used it in an academic arena, but it was easily scalable to industry too.
