Retention has been strong in my company, which ties to the right organizational philosophy and mission, including showing commitment through actions. In the end, this is what gravitates people toward an organization.

We always make sure that the person leaving feels welcomed back when the time is right again.
I keep in touch with many of those I worked with before and follow their path. When relevant and time is right, I recommend them for roles or contact them for ones which I need to fill.
This has always been the case for me.
I think employers need to really re-think why they never thought about off-boarding experience before.
