It is very smart because it is the base for a new app which gives a lot of new possibilities (like WeChat).CSO, CMOa year ago
Not only an app, but a user ecosystem with hundreds of millions of users already onboard. It's the town square no matter what you call it. But now, it can also be a platform for entertainment, commerce, and much more. He didn't buy it to keep it twitter. He bought it as a launching pad for bigger and better things.

I think the name is stupid, but rebranding is probably a good thing to give it a new facelift and maybe a different reputationDirector of Marketing in Softwarea year ago
My thoughts exactly. Definitely in favor of the rebrand. But, come on. Is "X" the best we can do?

Elon Musk's decision to rebrand Twitter to X is bold and risky. The Twitter brand is well-known and respected worldwide, and it's hard to imagine it being replaced by something as generic as "X." However, Musk has a clear vision for what he wants X to be: an "everything app" that encompasses social networking, payments, gaming, and more. He believes that the X name is more fitting for this ambitious project. It could alienate existing Twitter users who are attached to the brand.
It could be seen as a gimmick that will not be taken seriously by businesses and governments.
It could be difficult to trademark and protect the X name.

I think a rebrand was bound to happen given Elon's long term vision for the app, however maybe a bit premature. I'd expect a rebrand to happen when new features have been added creating a new identity and purpose for the product.Director of Salesa year ago
What did he pay $44BN for, the company he gutted? The user base he alienated or the brand the X'ed?
