We recently implemented a new system for managing admissions at our college (a mission critical process). Previously, the process was highly manual, fraught with errors, and with lots of digital friction. The new process was designed to follow the system capabilities (instead of trying to make the system align with our - broken - way of doing things). It noticeably reduced the effort of all staff involved, and even though we've encountered problems during implementation (the usual errors and omissions), the team is thrilled with the new system.

The director of that area has been involved in dozens of projects in this college and others and says it's the first time she's seen a change go in of this type that hasn't encountered a massive wall of resistance, and the first time she's seen a team legitimately excited to get a new system.

We're seeing the same feelings about changes to our telephony and queueing systems as well.

The main difference is perhaps that we've really listened to front line staff to ask what parts of their jobs are frustrating, annoying, or just a straight up barrier. Then we selected projects that would address those systems, either changing, replacing or implementing new systems that specifically addressed those concerns (while also addressing student experience problems and improving internal controls).

It sounds strange but the best change (benefit about this case) to increase the positivity of my teams has been the introduction of the convention with FitPrime (fitprime.com), provider of gym and wellness service.

If you have a full Gartner license, they have a benchmarking tool that maps out to your industry.  It was useful for my needs.
