To track the growth of your personal brand, you can rely on various ways to track depending on the strategies you employ:

If You Primarily Use Social Media:

Follower Growth: Observe an increase in social media followers over time.
Engagement Metrics: Monitor likes, comments, shares, and retweets on your posts.
Reach and Impressions: Analyze the reach and impressions of your social media content

If You Use Other Strategies (e.g., Podcasts, Blogging, Speaking, Guest Posts):

Podcast Metrics: Track downloads, subscribers, and listener engagement.
Website and Blog Metrics: Measure website traffic, content performance, and email subscribers.
Speaking Engagements and Workshops: Count invitations and gather audience feedback.
Guest Posts: Monitor invitations and assess content impact.
Media Coverage: Keep an eye on mentions in credible media.

I primarily focus on LinkedIn metrics, as this is the main social media platform where I am active. Anecdotally, the number of job solicitations I receive is also a sign of my reputation. I regularly receive job offers, which, in my opinion, indicate growth in my personal brand. Another factor that demonstrates my progress is the invitations I get to participate in conferences. These are the tools I use to gauge my personal brand's growth.

I only focus on my internal brand, but I do participate in Peer Communities (obviously) and LinkedIn but those are only for considering external roles

Internally I mentally keep track of when senior leader’s above me mention that the know my work or success on an implementation. I also keep track how many peers and non-team members reach out for assistance or guidance. If it’s happening a lot I know my personal network is growing and people see me as a helpful leader

Internally within my organization, I assess my impact by the frequency with which individuals seek my advice, mentorship, and general guidance. Additionally, I evaluate through the extent to which general staff, colleagues, and leadership within the organization engage in discussions about—and demonstrate acceptance of—the disruptive technologies I introduce and the thought leadership philosophies I espouse.

Externally, I benefit from a somewhat facilitated process in certain respects as I regularly put my work out there in peer reviewed journals. I can gauge the impact of my technical research by tracking citation metrics and monitoring the viewership of my publications.

Lastly, through LinkedIn. I find the more people reach out to collaborate or discuss certain topics the more likely my personal brand is growing.

I recommend that you consider finding an outside third party to perform the audit.  I have had to do something similar with an unprofitable division/product line that reports directly to our CEO. We outsourced with Alvarez ...read more
