There are a lot of great platforms out there that match mentors and mentees and create a resource-guided, self-driven space for quality mentoring relationships. We do ours via Chronus and mentoring pairs meet virtually.

In order to set up an effective program start with a clear purpose. What are the goals of the program - is it to improve employee retention?  Accelerate career development?  etc.  Identify participants who will actually participate.   Clearly state time commitments and expectations for all.    In the past I had some disappointed mentees who kept getting rescheduled.  Define or set minimums on frequency and duration of interactions.  Lastly, feedback mechanisms are important for both mentor and mentees.  Regularly collect feedback from all involved and adjust program the as needed.  Hope that helps!

1. Identify your structure, how you will engage & execute - how many sessions, period, and frequence, and activities
2. Identify your key VPs & engage them first, prepare them with clear outlined expectations
3. Leverage talent succession pipelines & work with HR Business partners where possible and relevant to identify top talent that will be part of your mentoring program
4. Onboard the mentees
5. Consider networking activities to bring everyone together, speakers
6. Measure before & after to see what value you brought

Sounds brilliant.  Cross fertilisation of ideas, people understanding other jobs in the business.  I guess you'd want to make sure it didn't get out of control, but someone from one function helping someone in another has ...read more
