How frequently do members conduct org-wide employee engagement surveys? We currently do one annual and then a shorter check-in half-way through the year.

I've been in orgs which do it once per year, once per quarter, and never.   I've also been on teams which had the space to talk about engagement and morale every other week in the form of a retrospective meeting.   The frequency will likely depend on a number of factors.

1. Who has the authority to make changes?
2. How much of a strategic imperative is Employee Engagement?
3. Is the view that Employee work for executives or the other way around?
4. How many changes are being made with the need to evaluate their effectiveness?
5. How frequently does the employee context and experience change.
6. Are you trying to find where a problem exists or the underlying cause?

At my companies we have always done them no sooner than 2 years as it takes a while to be able to see progress towards fixing an issue that then employees see, thus your engagement score will go up.  We might do a smaller pulse survey at the one year mark, but not always.

We run ours quarterly.

One quarter is an extensive engagement survey that takes 10-15 minutes to complete. We use this as our annual benchmark.

Two of the three subsequent quarters are 'pulse' surveys, which only ask 2-3 questions and are intended to provide insight into how engagement is trending. These can be completed in <3 minutes.

The last survey is slightly longer than the pulse surveys (~5 minutes to complete) and focused on DEIB topics.
