Yes, we use the firm that carries out background checks to conduct the checks.

We don't have a formal practice of doing so. Not saying some hiring leaders won't do their own social media espionage. I've frowned upon such over the years as it could lead to "context fogginess" which could result due to cultural, age and simply lived experience differences. One could discover something that may be discrimanary to use - i.e. sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity, etc. It's a slippery slope. I prefer to use our process to screen candidates.
