Are there any certifications that weren’t previously on your radar but have become more important to you recently?

We participate a lot with AWS certifications from practitioners all the way up through architects. We encourage our folks to take the classes and then the tests and we cover the costs. We also do a lot with security certifications, grooming a group of folks to be security mavens. There are many security certifications they can get to help train the rest of the group.

Yes, I agree with Barry. I've encouraged people to do AWS certifications. It's particularly useful when filtering out candidates. For instance, when I was recently looking for a cloud OPS engineer, AWS certification was a standout feature. It helps me pick candidates for further discussion to see if they're a fit. But, I tend not to place too much value on certifications. AWS certification does provide some amount of knowledge and I'm sure Azure has something similar. But I've used it mainly for selecting candidates.

We certainly want our security personnel, especially at senior levels, to be CIC certified. For our developers, we have put all of them through Azure certifications. We want them to speak a similar language. We've mandated everyone to take the basic AZ-400 certification. We're also a SAFe methodology shop, so we're mandating our teams to either be SAFe certified product owners or at least SAFe for teams. This isn't a certification, but a training we do for all leadership.
