Is anyone less concerned about hiring accountants without certifications (CPA, CMA) these days due to the shortage? Or are those still requirements for you?

Certification is still required for external accounting firms we hire and for management positions in our corporate accounting team.

Well first thing that I want to clear is that shortage or not the reason behind the existence of CPA is because it's a license and that license authorizes the CPA holder to conduct audi level & also file tax & regulatory filings, so it's definitely a requirement.

Now when you said "without certifications (CPA, CMA) "  you included CPA which again is not a certification but license.

as for CMA or any certification for that matter my comment would be....  it doesn't matter as long as the person knows what they are doing and is doing the job correctly. id say Experience is the best certification

Within FP&A I view these certifications as not a requirement but can provide a good benchmark for the potential a new team member may have. In my experience those with the certifications have a higher ceiling than others.

I think three organizations offer similar programs that each have a different level of rigor...

The Association of Finance Professionals offers the Financial Planning & Analysis certification.

The Institute of Management Accounts has the Certified Management Account certification and the Certified in Strategy and Competitive Analysis certification.

AICPA and CIMA offer the Certified Global Management Accountant program.

There is some overlap between what is covered in these programs and MBA programs but I would like to recruit talent that either have these credentials or at least aspire to them.

Atleast in the market i am working, I don’t see any shortage of the people with certifications.

Certifications and qualifications is always a good benchmark to shortlist candidates. But the employer also needs to access the capability and competency of the accountants. The person might not have enough experience but with the right attitude, the person can do wonders if guided properly
