(Generative) AI can be a significant time-saver. The technology has come a long way in recent years — especially the last 6 months alone. In my opinion, whether/when/what to use it for depend on the level of personalization required and the level of complexity involved, and whether the technology is currently mature enough to meet that need.

Using it for cold-outreach sales email, a generic corporate blog, or web copy — why not? To author a thought leadership piece, a personal response to a mentee, or a wedding speech? — Maybe not. If it’s supposed to come from the heart (or the brain), it might impact your reputation and trust if the recipient notices that you haven’t written it yourself.

There’s also significant upside. Using ChatGPT as a sparring partner, to poke holes in your story, take on a persona (your customer, manager, etc.) to role play — the possibilities are endless.

We are currently using ChatGPT as just another tool in our toolbox, specifically as prompts for when we're trying to help some of our experts write pieces to help get them started. Maybe it's an outline, or maybe it's particular research or stats on something where we need some quick “leg ups” if you will. It has definitely saved us time and brain power.  Definitely more to explore and use but most of our use cases relate to content/thought leadership development for now.

Always need to remember about privacy, compliance, and security. Always, always, always read through the terms and conditions, privacy policy, use of data, etc. Reading email for example is it stored somewhere else? Always think of legal ramifications.
