I worked in a culture that Empathy was a core principle but in name only. Layoffs were rampant. Occasionally a leader had it and people always applied to join that group. My observation was those who were promoted the fastest had zero empathy and were 100% focused on delivery ahead of time at below cost, regardless of the impact on their teams. However they rarely stayed in the company more than3-5 years. I learned that you need to lead with the character you can live with and be proud of. It got me pretty high in the organization but not to the top. And I’ve decided that’s ok with me. Don’t sacrifice your principles.

Empathy for many it may seem a burden. But it’s not! It is an important element within emotional intelligence, which in the end separates bosses from leaders that acknowledges & uses empathy often.

Empathy is an important quality for any leader who wants to inspire, motivate and support their team to achieve success if it is right on target and not excessive so that it turns subordinates into spoiled babies which happens in Gen Z.

As a leader you need to feel more (for the employees, for the customer, for the company) than to execute. Empathy is the key to success

While everything can be looked at a business and financial and outcome perspective; it’s important to understand the underlying entity that makes things happen is the individual. This is true despite an organisation priding itself to be process oriented . The connect with the people demystifies complex problems and actually finds solutions because the underlying individual perspectives are understood irrespective of them being right or wrong. That basically opens a healthy conversation and communication channel and this eliminates perception oriented decision making

I think it depends on the industry. Here is one article that supports this point of view: https://www.rewardgateway.com/blog/employee-turnover-rates-by-industry
