What does the termination of the Visa-Plaid acquisition and subsequent merger mean, if anything, for the digital frontier of currency?

My perspective is they abstracted a way on top of efficient payment rails. It gave you some interface, but they didn't actually solve performance issues.

After the shock of this deal not going through and what it might mean for a period of time for some of the other aspects, I'm pretty happy for the team at Plaid. They are not only a developer first but they're also an industry leading platform that allows for a lot of different things to come up on how this could be done in a better way. I'm excited to look at their future roadmap and think about different kinds of ways they will continue to lead the path. Bringing 11,000 or so of these institutions together actually sets the rails for a lot of other people to actually build on top of it. For Plaid to actually really go ahead, truly be an even larger platform they couldn’t be acquired. One of the jokes I had with somebody on Twitter, was like, "Well, Google decided to go get bought out by Yahoo. It didn't work out for Google at that time. And look where we are, what happened to Google?” I hope the same thing happens to Plaid as well.

I think my disparaging comment aside, Plaid has done an innovative thing. And if they can disrupt the industry I'm all for it.

I think they already have, they will continue to do more.

To augment what I said during the Wine & Wisdom panel discussion, Plaid has little to nothing to do with "digital frontier of currency". Their set of APIs ride atop the existing legacy rails and constructs such as ACH, which are grossly inefficient and will be disrupted by true digital currencies, coins, and tokens
