Mentorship in your own organization requires a balance of teaching, supervising, and letting the professionals succeed or fail on their own...You want your team to be able to handle the work but you want them to know when to escalate issues.

Equally important is to encourage access to colleagues whose focus is on the commercial issues legal advises on and supports.  This can be done via a supportive introduction or a self-introduction, depending on the corporate culture and individual personalities.  Idea is ultimately to build collaboration and success.

I tailor mentorship to strike a balance between teaching essential legal skills, guiding professional development, and fostering the confidence of junior legal professionals to handle tasks independently. Learning specific skills and understanding when to escalate issues are crucial components of their growth. Additionally, I facilitate cross-functional networking, encouraging collaboration and a comprehensive understanding of how legal expertise supports and enhances different areas of an organization, thereby contributing to overall success.
