One challenge with OKRs can be keeping the momentum up over a long period of time. Breaking up a long-spanning OKR into smaller bites and celebrating success/debriefing opportunities along the way is one way to mitigate.VP of Product Management in Hardwarea year ago
OKRs work well for us, but the danger is having too many objectives and key results and taking it down to the individual contributor level. You need to consider the right level of sizing, key results, what you want to measure the business on to the role level.Senior Vice President of Product Management in Softwarea year ago
One of the biggest challenges I faced with OKRs was when we set ambitious objectives that were exciting, but when it came to the key results, we realized they weren't as measurable as they should be. For instance, one of our objectives was to 'Enhance User Engagement,' but the key result was 'Increase user activity.' The term 'activity' was too vague and didn't give a clear direction. As a result, different teams had varied interpretations, leading to misalignment. In hindsight, I would have ensured that our key results were more specific, actionable, and tied directly to the objective. For example, 'Increase average user session duration by 10% in Q2' would have been a clearer, more measurable KR. It was a valuable lesson on the importance of clarity and specificity in OKR
