If the mentor matching question pertains to developing Hi-POs, then I have seen organizations use both manual approach (seen in small to mid sized firms) and software tool(see in mature and advance organizations). However, in my view, a manual process offers better context, appreciation of needs in terms of how the mentees will benefit from insights/experiences/approaches from a potential mentor.

As of now we are manually conducting mentor mentee matches for Hi-Po's or critical talent. Think Talent, one of our empaneled vendors for Managerial development have a platform and we are currently evaluating it.
