It might be best to place the senior AI official under the General Counsel or Chief Compliance Officer. This way, you get strong oversight on legal and ethical issues, which are crucial for AI. Technology departments might not focus enough on compliance, and the CEO probably won’t have the time or expertise for these details.CEO in Miscellaneous21 days ago
Not knowing what departments or C-Suite appointments your organisation has the role should report to a relevant C-Suite representative. Being either Chief Information Officer, Chief Information Security Office, or as Rebecca said the Chief Compliance Officer, if neither of these roles exists then either CEO or consider a new role of Chief AI Officer as just like security AI will become an integral part of an organisation over time.Director of IT in Finance (non-banking)21 days ago
The effective implementation of AI requires a robust foundation of data privacy, security, compliance, and governance. If your organisation is not large enough or has not matured its AI strategy enough to warrant a Chief AI Officer (as others have suggested), then the logical positioning of a senior AI official is within your Risk & Compliance team.
There are so many ethical, privacy, regulatory, and security considerations with how to responsibly implement an AI strategy that fundamentally makes the planning and governance aspects arguably more important than the implementation itself.
