I think the role of IT will be in governance, so understanding how it's deployed, the security, who's responsible in each of the lines of businesses, but also with cost optimization from running models and supporting all of the deployment throughout the lines of business.

I'll flip it around the other way. That's the role IT plays in Gen AI, the role Gen AI will play within IT is about optimization and cutting down unnecessary tasks. Think about chatbots and other aspects like provisioning equipment or granting access, for example. These are repetitive tasks. Being able to engage with a customer without a human from the IT side? That's a basic but powerful advantage Gen AI will offer, and we'll see it become common quite fast. And while that’s a very basic use, it’s one that will be prevalent quickly.

I agree, Martin. For the generic tasks, GenAI is really well positioned for that. But when it comes to business decision-making, I see that going more toward shadow IT – out of the hands of IT and within the business data science groups.

This is where it becomes a huge challenge: How do we partner with the business to help them get the data? Because all business units don't have access to all data, but they want it and IT has kind of historically been the gatekeeper of that. Business groups are really charging ahead, often without IT, to make these new models and obviously not Gen AI, but other types of AI and that will obviously be a huge challenge for all of us.

IT support, especially level one, as well as governance. Additionally, we’ll see it in policy compliance, definitely security alerts (and anything related), and also for onboarding knowledge bases to really help new people come on board and understand the organization.

It puts the reimagine back into technology. I think it's going to make it a more exciting place to be. We're back to the days of true innovation.

You hit the nail on the head. I think Gen AI is an opportunity that will exceed the opportunity of the Internet.

I'm not quite sure what unique role Gen AI will have. There are many AI paths ahead of us. It's like when the Internet started — and I was there when it began. Suddenly, instead of creating numerous programs, we got the browser, a universal interface. Quite frankly, I think that's going to start happening on our phones. Instead of everybody downloading an app, hopefully there will be a general UI for apps so you don't have to load a whole application just to get that particular piece of data.

I think Gen AI will just be an accelerant for our most creative minds, and it'll create new opportunities we haven't yet considered.
