Very simply, leadership and sponsorship. Mostly, support and tone from the top to ensure success. Change leadership as well is certainly helpful.CIO in Education2 years ago
There are many reasons executives have to be on board on any project let alone one of such a magnitude such as an ERP. There are critical elements in this process that if not managed correctly can derail the project. One needs support from the top on the change management process to be applied, the high level flight plan, the budget, planned system outage, User acceptance testing, critical users availability for adhoc and critical project meetings, Executive sponsorship and participating in the Project Steering committee. The above elements are not exhaustive but form part of critical elements that need executive team support for such critical projects to succeed. Project team members rise to the occasion when they see top leadership taking ownership and being part of the success of the project. It should be noted that every project whether its a greenfield of replacing a previous system will at some stage affect the operations of an origination and only top leadership presence and support becomes the calming voice.

The executive team must set and clearly communicate the strategic goals and objectives of the organization so that the ERP implementation is aligned with the organization goals. The executive team also must ensure that resources (budget and talent/personnel) are adequate and available to complete the implementation time frame. The team must get milestone results on implementation progress and hold folks accountable.VP of IT in Media2 years ago
Setting a tone for organizations buy in
I have participated in projects where the executives are not only involved but committed with the project and the success were not in the ERP only but in the other processes that where review and or changed because the implementation.
