Is the following about network architecture and network technologies accurate? In network architecture and network technologies, many vendors are suggesting "Intent-based networking" as the logical next step beyond software-defined network. While the idea behind intent-based networking is not that recent (with indications of this being more than 10 years old) I have yet to find a practical implementation of the idea. Most vendor resources on this also indicate that this is a "roadmap item" rather than already reality. Is intent-based networking currently still slideware, or are there already companies with tangible experience here?

This is a very interesting post and I have to admit during my years, the client were also asking the same questions, what’s the difference and who used them, after few study case, it was to be put in this simple sentences

SDN - Focus in how devices shoukd operate within the network, or the focus is in the device, as the management control being abstracted

Intent-Based Networking, the abstraction is taking place in higher level with business as center of the design

Here are some reading I used to read https://www.techtarget.com/searchnetworking/answer/Intent-based-networking-vs-SDN-How-do-they-differ

Some success stories are listed here https://www.calsoftinc.com/work-insights/success-stories/intent-based-networking-platform/

Hope it can brighten the idea

We have started migration to Cisco SDA intent based networking solution and are seeing big benefits such as automation, simplified asset management, automated security moniotring and etc - Cisco SDA using Cisco DNAC, Cisco ISE and Fabric (Switches and Wireless Access Points).

Intent-based networking (IBN) is indeed an emerging concept in the field of network architecture and network technologies. While many vendors have started promoting it as the logical next step beyond software-defined networking (SDN), it is still a relatively nascent technology, and practical implementations may be limited.

The idea behind intent-based networking is to enable networks to be driven by high-level business intent or policies rather than manual configuration of individual network devices. The goal is to automate network management and provisioning, improve network visibility, and enhance overall network performance.

While the concept of intent-based networking has been discussed for more than a decade, the practical implementation and adoption are still evolving. Many vendors currently position it as a roadmap item or a vision for the future, rather than a fully realized and widely adopted technology.
