It’s complicated but team members are well aware of the upcoming cliffs, if no promo on sight then they switch the teams. Providing a good stock option would be great or allow them to change the location.

Find alternative paths to inspire, motivate, engage, challenge, and reinvigorate the employee. Ask them what they want or need to stay fully involved and contribute, knowing this is the reality. Salary caps are only one dimension. There are other reasons why employees want to stay and excel in their roles. Tap into that passion.

You can involve the employee in cross-functional projects to get them to learn about other departments. Some employees thrive and stay motivated when constantly challenged to do more.
