Yammer is used for all of our teams as a social network. We have Employee resource groups, communities for centers of excellence such as the Power Platform, fun groups such as Pets or IT innovations, etc. We have Teams, Slack and Yammer and we use all avenues.
Yammer is definitely our most active and utilized among the company.

You can create something based on SharePoint. I've implemented it in the past for something similar and it worked out pretty well.Founder- President in Transportationa year ago

To build an internal community, I felt there are two platforms that will be great to go hand in hand. One is documentation software which perhaps a wiki will be great, to retain lessons and projects within the organization.
Another will be discussion software, similar to a forum, Discord or Slack that allows people to observe and monitor discussions, so be able to follow the discussion and made their own conclusion.
