Is anyone here moving away from traditional ERPs? We're starting to transition from SAP R3/ECC to SAP S4 HANA, aiming to use it in its standard form. We've conducted show-and-tell workshops to assess the need for any deviations and plan to move core functions like customer care, CRM, and field service management to external systems. We're also integrating BillingPlatform Corp. for revenue and contract management, combined with Camunda for process automation. However, we're finding SAP's public cloud inadequate, especially in features like additional ledgers. We haven't fully abandoned classic ERPs yet, but are exploring a composable approach with best-of-breed systems, orchestrated by a central process engine like Camunda. This would connect to lean finance software rather than a full operational ERP. Are other companies considering this shift or are systems like SAP S4/HANA still the go-to choice?

I have had these thoughts as well. Would love to see a new true core software come out that lets companies choose their best of breed in all the differentiating areas of their business but still connects that points that need connecting. Want to think i will see it in my working lifetime. I have looked at some small open source type ERPs and thought that I could put one of them with a bunch of best of breed and actually have a powerful agile solution. But as you say, would be a bold move, one that no large entity would likely have the risk tolerance to take. It will need to start grass roots and small first. I want to think some young entrepreneurial minded person is already working on it and the company that will dethrone SAP is already formed!
We pivoted to sap ECC green field with golden rules around what would guide us to a successful deployment.
Staying current in SAP allowed us to move to S4 and already doing our first S4 2303 upgrade. So it’s possible but will require new teams, skills and strong partner and an excellent process knowledge of the business.
Long story short it’s possible but not cheap but provides a clean slate.
