This is an area where the CIO shop will lead this initiative.

It is absolutely the CIO who has the knowledge, time and access to make a difference with AI projects delivering business impact.

I have started seeing Data emerge as it’s own practice including AI. Today as CIO that falls under me. Not because of my title or role but because I have the business expertise to be able to add value with AI. As a technologist it is great to see the business excited about a topic like AI and seeing the value it can bring. On the other hand, with the tools in the market today, I am also afraid of shadow IT shops springing up inside the company. It is a dual edged sword.

The shift of technology appears to continue to change, bifrocating teams in to run the business vs accelerate the business. Most functions (CMO, CSCO, CHRO) are already talking to external companies on how to leverage the technology for a specific use case. Shadow IT is mentioned below and that is a very plausible reality. The Chief Innovation Officer may also be responsible for this area with those under the CIO continuing to be a shared service org.
