The most important thing for a Product Manager is to understand the company strategy and then craft a product vision / strategy that aligns and helps achieve the company goals.  The key to that is spending time with leadership to understand and share insights to help shape things at the company level.

Collaboration with leadership is a key aspect because it allows a product manager to get a better view of how business thinks and how they can be a better conduit to the the development teams in order to turn out the best possible prodcuts
